The Problem Liveness Detection Solves

How It Works

Active Liveness

The system prompts the user to perform specific actions: blink twice, nod slowly, smile, turn their head. These actions confirm real-time interaction rather than a static image or pre-recorded video. POY Verify uses active liveness challenges tracked by MediaPipe's 468-landmark face detection to confirm each action was performed naturally. Passive Liveness

The system analyzes the biometric sample invisibly without requiring user action. It looks for biological signals: skin texture patterns, micro-movements (involuntary eye movement, blood pulse), and depth information that distinguish living tissue from flat media.

Hardware Liveness

The strongest form. Dedicated hardware sensors - 3D depth cameras (structured light, time-of-flight), infrared emitters, and motion detectors - measure physical properties that only exist in living human tissue. A photograph has no 3D depth. A screen has no infrared skin reflection. A mask has no blood flow. Hardware liveness has never been defeated in production because the verification is based on physics, not image analysis.

Why Software-Only Liveness Is Not Enough

Software-only liveness analyzes camera images for spoof indicators. But deepfake technology is specifically designed to create images that fool cameras.
